It is possible to contribute to all articles concerning concepts. Each publication will give rise to a moderation, so changes will not be visible immediately. To enter Edit mode, click on the tab at the top right: Edit or Edit source:

A session has a time limit, and it is possible to lose your changes if the time limit is exceeded.

Content

Automatically generated section

Within the articles is a paragraph automatically generated from the CNES knowledge base: the ‘Semantic data’ section. This part of the article is fixed. See Help:Content for more details. It is possible to write above or below it.

In the editor, this paragraph is found under the syntax {{:Autogenerated:NOMPAGE}}. It is imperative to keep this function.

Summary

A table of contents is added automatically after four section titles. It cannot be modified via the editor, but administrators can prevent its creation. The table of contents does not therefore appear during editing, but it is present during previewing in the old Vector skin. The table of contents is located in the left-hand sidebar, or in the old Vector skin, at the top of the article. On a smaller screen, the table of contents is folded to the left of the page title, available with the symbol:

Protected pages

This wiki contains protected pages that can only be modified by administrators, such as help pages. Special pages are pages automatically created by the Mediawiki tool, and cannot therefore be modified manually.

Using the visual editor

The visual editor makes it easier to edit content than the wikicode editor. The interface resembles that of a more traditional word processing solution, with a toolbar at the top.

The blue part corresponds to the paragraph of semantic data imported automatically, and therefore not modifiable.

Using the wikitext editor

Modifications are made as follows:

  1. Click on the ‘Edit wikicode’ tab at the top of the page.
  2. Make the changes to the text.
  3. Click on the ‘Save changes’ button in blue at the bottom of the editor.

It is possible and highly recommended to preview the page before saving the changes.

The Wiki editor features what is called ‘wikitext’. This consists of a mixture of syntax and keywords to format the text to be displayed. Simple text will be published as text without specific formatting. The editor then includes symbols such as asterisks, single inverted commas or square brackets for formatting text or creating links. Certain HTML tags are also taken into account.

Note that a single line break in the editor is not considered a line break in the final version. To start a new paragraph, two line breaks are required (leave an empty line between two paragraphs).

At the top of the article, you must note or keep the category to which it belongs, as follows: [[Category:CATEGORYNAME]].

Example of formatting:

In meteorology, synoptic-scale phenomena are characterised by a length of several hundred to several thousand kilometres and a duration of several days; they include depressions, anticyclones and barometric troughs. To find out more, click on this link.

In '''''meteorology''''', synoptic-scale phenomena are characterised by a length of ''several hundred to several thousand kilometres'' and a duration of ''several days''; they include '''depressions''', '''anticyclones''' and '''barometric troughs'''. To find out more, click on this [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synoptic_scale_meteorology link].

Before publishing

Preview

Before publishing, it is possible (and highly recommended) to use the preview available via the button at the bottom of the editing area. You can also compare the two versions using ‘Show changes’:

In the visual editor, you must first click on ‘Save changes’ before being able to ‘Review your changes’. It shows both the preview and the changes.

The preview does not validate the changes, so it is important not to forget publication.

You can continue to modify the current version of the article before it is approved.

Summary

Below the editing area there is also a space for a summary of the changes made. This is not mandatory, but it makes moderation and follow-up easier.
